This week’s “Fabulous Room” is a chic and glamorous living room in a stylish apartment in Madrid. Designed by Nuria Alia, Miriam Alia, and Patricia Bustos of Living Pink and featured in Nuevo Estilo,  the room is a stunning exercise in glamour and balance. The room brings together a pair of beautiful, gilded floor lamps by Italian designer Tomaso Bardi from the 1970s, a feminine crystal chandelier, and clean-lined, modern furniture swathed in neutrals as well as a poppy shade of lemon yellow.

The mix of styles and pieces from various periods of design results in a beautifully-layered, one of a kind space. I love rooms like this one because they really drive home the fact that design truly is all about the mix. That unique, personal mix of pieces that are special to you and they may not have the same provenance, but work together to create a look that is in line with your personality. Had the designers only opted for glamorous, feminine pieces, the room would easily be over-the-top and wouldn’t be nearly as interesting. It’s the tension between masculine and feminine, modern and traditional, vintage and new that makes it work. Styles have to be tempered against one another to achieve visual harmony.

What is your favorite element in this room? I am in love with those gorgeous yellow chairs,  but I am having a major yellow moment right now! There are so many interesting pieces in this room, don’t you think?

Have a wonderful weekend!
