A Glimpse into Legends of La Cienega
This week, I am in Los Angeles as an ambassador for the La Cienega Design Quarter's 2014 Legends event. Legends is a 3-day celebration of design that brings together the top editors of the nation's prized shelter magazines with VIPs and tastemakers from the worlds of interior design, architecture, decor, art, and fashion for keynote panel discussions, cocktail parties, exhibitions, book signings, personal appearances, and receptions. Each year, the Legends event has a central theme and top interior designers are selected to decorate the windows of the shops that dot La Cienega and Melrose. This year's theme is "Novel Interiors: Storytelling by Design" and the window designers include Diane von Furstenberg, Madeline Stuart, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and Timothy Corrigan among many other leading design talents. All of the events begin today and I'll be able to check out all of the fabulous windows, but my dear friend, Mark Sikes took me over to Hollyhock to see his two beautiful windows when I arrived on Tuesday.
As most of you know, Mark is a devotee of blue and white, using the classic color combination in the majority of his interiors. His window for Legends was inspired by the book, Orient Express and features glorious panels by Gracie depicting a blue and white Asian motif.
Mark's windows also include hand-painted blue and white floors, Louis XVI chairs upholstered in Brunschwig & Fils' "Les Touches" fabric, timeless blue and white delft pottery, and a beautiful pair of marbleized blue and white lamps and plates by Christopher Spitzmiller. Isn't it pretty?
I will be posting photos of other windows and glimpses into the various Legends events, so be sure to follow along on Instagram today and tomorrow!
