here’s how you can shoot on super 8 filmin the 21st century. first, ask your relatives if they have anold camera lying around somewhere if not, have a look online, they don’t costmuch. try and stay away from the untested ones, look out for listings that mention a working motor.worthwhile features include 24 frames a second, and manual exposure.once your camera has arrived, it will probably need some double a batteries. then you can test the motor. next you’ll need some film stock, and thiswhere it starts to get expensive.

this 50ft cartridge will give us 3 and a halfminutes of recording time since we’re using 18 frames per second. finally, let’s set the camera to tungsten, since we’re using daylight stock. if you care about why, just pause the video now, because we’re ready to shoot. to set focus, let’s zoom in all the way,and adjust the focus ring until it’s sharp. then we can zoom out to our original shot.for exposure, the automatic metering is good, but if we don’t want it to change whilewe’re filming, we can use the exposure lock. the rule of thumb is that it’s okay to overexpose, but if you underexpose then the image will get very noisy.next, go and film.

shoot a nostalgic music video, carry it withyou so you look more sophisticated, and of course, film yourself in the mirror.these cameras usually don’t record sound, so for dialog we’ll record separately andmatch it up with a slate. when film runs out, send it off to be processedand digitised. after a few weeks, they'll send it back, soyou can open the file and enjoy the scratches, the grain, the color.and now we have a demonstration of super 8 footage my name's simon cade, this has been dslrguideand i'll see you next week.
